SAC is pleased to announce the appointment of two staff members to fill the positions
of Survey Officer and GIS Mapping Officer. Saeed
Ahmad, the survey officer, will join us on 22 April and Tom
Haythornthwaite, the GIS mapping officer, will join us on the following Monday
on 29 April. Saeed and Tom bring a very rich academic and work experience to their
respective positions. They were chosen from a strong field of candidates.
The
SAC staff and social science consultant, Aldo Benini, will provide intensive orientations.
We expect to have Saeed and Tom out in the field by mid-May.
SAC
is seeking candidates for the position of Program Director. In 2002 there will
be more impact survey activity than ever before. The program director will work
closely with Bob Eaton, the executive director, to coordinate survey activities
and provide leadership in strengthening the survey process.
Norwegian People’s Aid has deployed its team to Addis
Ababa and work has begun. With funding from the Norwegian, German and US governments,
the survey is expected to take 18 months.
The Danish
Demining Group (DDG) is ready to begin work in early May. With start up funding
from the Swedish
government (SIDA) and the European
Union (EU) the survey will begin in the northwest of Somalia in Somaliland.
