Final report writing began in Somaliland; Survey Coordinator hired for Angola; SAC team arrives in Angola for two week planning mission; protocol revisions reviewed by SWG; Mike Kendellen completed trip to Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, and Somalia.

Afghanistan
The Survey Action Center (SAC), UNDP-Kabul, and Mine Clearance Planning Agency (MCPA) continue preparing the working agreement to begin a landmine impact survey (LIS).

Angola
SAC hired Christian Larssen for Survey Coordinator. He and Anthony Zenos, SAC Consultant, went to Angola on 22 February to continue discussions with the NGO implementing partners and CNIDAH on survey implementation and to further assess the number of mine suspected communities that need to be surveyed.

Azerbaijan
Data collection continued, with 90% completion as of 28 February. Mike Kendellen also observed IEPF teams conducting the survey in the field.

Bosnia-Herzegovina
The Expert Opinion Collection (EOC) phase of the LIS, that defines the communities to be visited, completed and is now being analyzed. The translation of the survey instruments into local languages completed. Saeed Ahmad and Tom Haythornthwaite, the SAC training team, completed senior staff training in Sarajevo on 7 February. Interviewers hired.

Eritrea
Tom Haythornthwaite supervised the interviewer training and EOC continued. The pilot test began.

Ethiopia
Interviewer training and plans to conduct the pilot test were completed. EOC will be completed in March. Mike Kendellen met with the NPA team and EMAO while in Ethiopia from 10-13 February.

Somalia
Mike Kendellen reviewed operations and close-out issues with the DDG team while in Somalia from 5 -10 February. Dr. Aldo Benini and Tom Haythornthwaite arrived in Somalia on 24 February to lead the data analysis and the drafting of the final report process. DDG began closing operations and returning equipment to UNDP.

Survey Working Group (SWG)
The SWG met in Geneva first week in February 2003 and discussed the first draft of the protocol edits, the status of the GLS evaluation, regional information sharing during surveys, strategic planning and Task Assessment and Planning (TAP).

SWG Protocols
The first draft of the protocol editing was presented to the SWG at their February meeting. The final draft for approval will be presented at the meeting in May.

Annual General Audit A-133
The annual general audit of SAC began in February and will be completed in March. The annual financial statements will be posted on the SAC website in early April.
