Final report writing continued for Somaliland; Bob Eaton visited Croatia to meet
with the Croatian Mine Action Center and the UN to discuss LIS; Mike Kendellen completed field visit to Bosnia; Azerbaijan completed data collection.
Afghanistan
The Survey Action Center (SAC) and UNDP-Kabul agreed on the working terms to begin a landmine impact survey (LIS). Orientation
for the SAC team will take place in Takoma Park 19-24 May.
Angola
SAC hired Christian Larssen for Survey Coordinator, Begona Fontan Pena as Finance- Admin officer, and Judith Van Daalen as GIS
Database officer. Christian and Anthony Zenos, SAC Consultant, went to Angola on 22 February to continue discussions with the
NGO implementing partners and CNIDAH on survey implementation and to further assess the number of mine suspected communities that
need to be surveyed.
SAC signed a grant agreement with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) of CAD$800,000 to support the LIS in Angola.
Azerbaijan
Data collection completed.
Bosnia-Herzegovina
Mike Kendellen visited Bosnia and observed the pilot test. The pilot test of more than 60 mine suspected communities was completed
on 28 March.
Eritrea
Data collection began.
Ethiopia
Pilot testing of the operational plan began in three separate locations.
Somalia
Dr. Aldo Benini and Tom Haythornthwaite completed their trip to Somalia on 10 March. Final report writing continued in Copenhagen
and Takoma Park. DDG closed its LIS operations and returned all equipment to UNDP.
