Azerbaijan LIS report in final writing stages; Bosnia, Eritrea, Ethiopia continue collecting data; Afghanistan office setup is underway; Mike Kendellen completes Advance Survey Mission to Sudan.

Afghanistan
The survey HQ in Kabul is being established. Applications for senior field staff continue to be received. Equipment procurement is in process and gazetteer/database is on-going. Senior Technical Advisor Alan Macdonald arrived to complete the SAC team. Senior staff training is scheduled for August.

Angola
Begona Fontan Pena, acting Program Manager, continued budget discussions with the NGOs and the set up of the SAC Coordination Center in Luanda. The positions of Survey Coordinator (Click here for Terms of Reference) and Field Coordinator (Click here for Terms of Reference) remain open. Please submit CV and cover letter to jobs@sac-na.org.

Azerbaijan
Tom Haythornthwaite, GIS & Mapping Officer, was in Baku for the data analysis and draft final report writing along with the SAC team. Cranfield Mine Action conducted a strategic planning session as part of the recently completed LIS from 1-7 June with Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).

Bosnia-Herzegovina
Data collection continues with 1,676 surveys completed as of 27 June. Current percentage of High, Medium, and Low-Impact communities is currently running at 3%, 44%, and 53%, respectively.

Eritrea
Data collection is on-going in all regions of the country with over 700 mine-suspected communities visited to-date.

Ethiopia
Data collection is on-going in all regions of the country with 577 mine-suspected communities visited as of 27 June.

Somalia
SAC has received the comments of the government officials in Hargeisa on the final report. SAC is now conducting the final internal review before publication.

GLS Evaluation
ScanTeam conducted interviews in Ottawa, New York and Takoma Park from 2-9 June as part of the initial phase of the evaluation. They will conduct field visits to Yemen, Thailand, Cambodia, Bosnia and Mozambique next month.

Survey Action Center
Mike Kendellen, SAC Director for Survey, was in Khartoum and Nairobi from 12-20 June to discuss implementing a landmine impact survey in Sudan. The National Mine Action Office (NMAO) in Khartoum facilitated the visit.
