Azerbaijan LIS report submitted to ANAMA for review; Bosnia, Eritrea, Ethiopia continue collecting data; Afghanistan senior staff training completed; Angola approves SAC registration. CIDA contributes $46,000 to Somaliland survey.
Afghanistan
SAC trainer Tom Haythornthwaite and MCPA conducted the senior staff training in Kabul from 3-22 August. Thirty-five trainees participated. Pre-testing of the survey instruments completed in twenty-one communities.
Angola
Begona Fontan Pena, acting Program Manager, registers SAC in the Ministry of Justice, submits Memorandum of Understanding to Angolan government for review, and requested quotes from local vendors for office equipment. SAC Board approves HALO Trust, Intersos, Mines Advisory Group, Norwegian People’s Aid, and Santa Barbara as implementing partners.
Azerbaijan
The final report draft is submitted to the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) for review. UN Certification Committee to review the survey in September.
Bosnia-Herzegovina
Data collection continues with 2,613 surveys completed. Currently the distribution in impact levels (High, Medium, and Low) for the surveyed communities is running at 3%, 43%, and 54%, respectively.
Eritrea
Data collection continues with 1,574 surveys completed with approximately 367, or 23 percent, communities found to be mine/UXO impacted.
Ethiopia
Data collection continues with 29% of suspected communities surveyed.
Somalia
Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) contributed $46,000 to SAC to complete the final report. The UN Certification Committee will review the survey in September.
GLS Evaluation
Scanteam completed field visits to, Bosnia-Herzegovina Cambodia, Chad, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Thailand and Yemen. They will present their findings and recommendations at the SWG meeting on 15-16 October in Copenhagen.
