Bosnia nears completion of data collection. Eritrea and Ethiopia continue collecting data; Afghanistan begins training interviewers; Angola SAC staff in Takoma Park for orientation.

Afghanistan
Training of survey interviewers commences on 20 September with ninety students.

Angola
Team leader Ulrich (Uli) Tietze and GIS/DB officer Judith Van Daalen arrive in Takoma Park for orientation in preparation for start of work in Luanda 7 October. Acting program manager Begona Fontan Pena continues in Luanda with program, equipment, and staffing processes.

Azerbaijan
SAC reviews comments on draft final report received from Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF).

Bosnia-Herzegovina
Data collection is 95% complete with 3,247 surveys conducted. Currently the distribution in impact levels (High, Medium, and Low) for the surveyed communities is running at 3%, 43%, and 54%, respectively. Data analysis and report writing to begin in November. SAC consultants, Aldo Benini and Rune Engeset, will join the Handicap International team in Sarajevo.

Eritrea
Data collection continues with 1,887 surveys conducted and 445 communities (24 percent) have been found impacted by landmines/UXO.

Ethiopia
Data collection continues with approximately 34% of the suspected communities surveyed. Procedures have been implemented to improve the rate of data collection, including the plan to hire/train an additional 12 interview teams in October to bring the level to 48 teams.

Survey Working Group and SAC Board
The SWG will meet in Copenhagen on 15-16 October and the SAC Board will meet in Lyon on 18 October.

GLS Evaluation
Scanteam is drafting their report and will present the findings and recommendations at the SWG meeting in October.
