Afghanistan final report production in Dari and Pashto continues; survey continues in Sudan; Phase III begins in Somalia.

Afghanistan
The graphical layout in the Pashto language continues. English and Dari versions are ready for printing.

Angola
Fifteen provinces now completed. Bengo, Uige and Cabinda remain. The field work is projected for completion by 31 December 2006.
 
Technical Advisor for the completion of the LIS in Angola Charles Downs is in Takoma Park for orientation. He will be in Angola from 15-27 July, on his first of three missions.

Democratic Republic of Congo
With partial funding from Canada, SAC will begin an enhanced Preliminary Opinion Collection to the district level in early 2007. This postponement is due to the upcoming national elections.

Ethiopia
Ethiopian Mine Action Office (EMAO) requests certification through the UN.

Somalia
SAC signs contract with UNOPS with funding from the European to conduct Phase III of the Somalia LIS. Consultant Emmanuel Sauvage is in Hargeisa to plan for the POC, order equipment for survey and complete the MoU with the Somaliland Mine Action Center (SMAC) to conduct the survey in Sanaag and Sool regions.

Sudan
Mines Advisory Group (MAG) continues the LIS in East Equatoria state. Approximately half of all mine suspected communities have been visited. The field work is scheduled for completion by the end of July. Planning continues to conduct the survey in Blue Nile state beginning in September.

Survey Action Center
Benjamin Richardier and Amandine Rave arrive from France for an internship at SAC offices where they work on collecting global data on mine action.
