Afghanistan
The graphical layout in the Pashto language continues. English and Dari versions are ready for printing.
Angola
Fifteen provinces now completed. Bengo, Uige and Cabinda remain. Field work is projected for completion by 31 December 2006.
Technical Advisor Charles Downs conducted his first of three missions to Angola from 15-27 July.
Democratic Republic of Congo
With partial funding from Canada, SAC will begin an enhanced Preliminary Opinion Collection to the district level.
Ethiopia
Ethiopian Mine Action Office (EMAO) requests certification of the ELIS through the UN.
Somalia (Phase 3: Sanaag and Sool regions)
SAC hires Nidaa Zein as survey manager. Nidaa worked on the LIS in Lebanon and subsequently worked in Iraq and Sudan. Training
for the Preliminary Opinion Collection was completed. The POC will take place during the month of August.
Sudan
Mines Advisory Group (MAG) completed the field work in East Equatoria state. QAM Russell Gasser conducted an intervention as
the Quality Assurance Monitor. Planning continues with MAG to conduct the survey in Blue Nile state beginning in September.
Survey Action Center
The US Department of State awarded SAC grants to conduct analysis on village demining, the LIS impact scoring, the development
of the next phase of LIS Explorer found on the SAC website and the development of practical economic decision support tools
for mine action. Executive Director Bob Eaton attended a UN Program Managers meeting in Geneva.
