Afghanistan [funded by EC, Canada, Germany, UNVTF]
The English version is printed and the Dari version is ready for printing.

Angola [funded by EC, USA, Germany, Canada]
Council of Ministers approves mine action strategic plan based on the LIS. Fifteen provinces now completed. Preliminary provincial reports prepared in joint CNIDAH/SAC project to provide provincial authorities with tool for mine action planning. The Norwegian Peoples’ Aid field work in Uige is ongoing. Santa Barbara Foundation will begin field work in Bengo Province in October. INAD is continuing planning for Cabinda.

Democratic Republic of Congo [funded by Canada]
With funding from Canada, SAC and DanChurchAid will begin an enhanced Preliminary Opinion Collection to the district level in 2007.

Ethiopia [funded by EC, Norway, USA, Germany, Netherlands]
Ethiopian Mine Action Office (EMAO) requests UN certification of the LIS.

Somalia (Phase 3: Sanaag and Sool regions) [funded by EC through UNDP]
SAC and the Somaliland Mine Action Center continue Preliminary Opinion Collection (POC) in Sanaag and Sool.

Sudan [funded by Canada]
Mines Advisory Group begins LIS in Blue Nile state. SAC and MAG present results of Eastern Equatoria LIS to stakeholders in Khartoum. In Eastern Equatoria state 43 of 400 communities are impacted; 83 SHAs and 28 recent victims identified. Main landmine contamination located in Magwi, Torit and Kopoeta South counties. UXO contamination more widespread than landmines as LIS identified 49 communities and 93 sites with UXO.

Survey Action Center
With funding from the US Department of State Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement, work on phase III of LIS Explorer begins with ThinkGeo in Lawrence, Kansas.
