Victim Reduction Model
[funded by U.S. Department of State]
The project will build on the current analytical work of the Survey Action Center to build an updated statistical model that will permit
national authorities to use LIS data to project probabilities of future mine incidents in communities identified by the LIS. The field
work will be conducted in Afghanistan later this year.
Impact Scoring Alternatives
[funded by U.S. Department of State]
The project will conclude the work begun in Angola and continued in Manchester, England on what other factors can be included to measure
impact. Databases from the LIS in Angola, Afghanistan and Eritrea are being used to test the statistical validity of several scenarios
that include variables not covered in the SWG protocol on impact scoring.
Economic Planning Tool
[funded by U.S. Department of State]
Bob Keeley, on behalf of SAC, conducted field research in Angola and Afghanistan to develop economic decision support tools for use in mine
action. The Excel spreadsheet-based tools will bring to bear economic analysis to assist planners in determining the size of a mine action
programs and the mix of different resources to deploy and the most economical distribution of resources throughout the country. The analysis
will build on LIS data and utilize economic data sets from other sectors for the economy. The final report will be available in December.
